Stress can be defined as “the body’s reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response.”While occasionally feeling "stressed out" does have certain necessary roles, dating all the way back to our time as Hunter/Gatherers and perhaps earlier, too much stress can also do scary things to our health. Excessive stress may cause or intensify many physical, mental, and emotional ailments ranging from simple things like headaches or mild depression to much more severe conditions such as heart disease. Here's some tips to help reduce stress and encourage a better outlook on your day to day life.

1.spend Time With Nature

Being outside, among the trees and wildlife, is always nice. Whether it's hiking through trails, hopping in the lake for a swim, or even relaxing by the campfire; getting back to our roots and spending time in nature is good for the mind, the body, and the soul. The potential combination of exercise and relaxation that being outdoors provides is a great way to escape the daily grind that many face whether it be sitting inside an office all day, fighting through rush hour traffic, or even spending too much time staring at the computer screen. Human beings have become far too disconnected from the natural environments that we once thrived in. So, whether it's alone or with friends or family, try and take some time for yourself and get out of the city for a few days. You'd be shocked at how much some fresh air and natural, earthly beauty can help to take some of that weight off your shoulders and give you just the jump start you need. After all, it never hurts to reconnect with where we came from.

Meditation is a powerful stress reliever and behavioral habit, which can lead to the reduction of stress and lead to an increased inner peace. So, if you're feeling worn down lately, take some time for yourself at the end of the day and run a hot bath. Light some candles, turn on some relaxing music and soak away the stress. Adding some bubble bath, or your favorite bath bomb (many of which contain vitamins and minerals that can improve the health of your hair, skin, and nails) to the water may enhance your stress relieving experience. Cleansing with Sage, or other herbs (also known as smudging) is great for relieving stress because it's meant to rid yourself and your surroundings from the negative energy that often accompanies stress, or stressful situations. If you've been carrying stress home with you from the office, or sit is being felt within your home due to personal matters, a good cleanse could be a great step in relieving this burden from your life.Maintaining positive thoughts is important while smudging and that positivity along with the positive energy that accompanies a good cleanse, helps improve your surroundings and create a more comfortable, stress free environment. Grounding (or Earthing) can go hand-in-hand with the first tool on this list (Spending Time With Nature). Grounding, which is the process of walking barefoot on natural ground, whether it be a dirt trail, a sandy beach, or the grass in your own backyard. Our planet gives off energy, as do we. Walking barefoot, and reconnecting with our planet, can have a similar effect to what happens when you plug your cell phone into it's charger after a long day of talking, texting, and browsing the web. This exchange of energy between you and the soil is a good way to recharge and reduce your stress by replacing stressful energy with fresh, natural, earthly energy. It's been suggested that this technique also provides multiple health benefits, in addition to the soul cleansing and rejuvenating effects that it provides. So, next time you're feeling overwhelmed and may be suffering from a bout of stress, restlessness, or if you're just not feeling like yourself; throw your shoes off and take the opportunity to feel the sand between your toes. This may be my personal favorite. Remember being a child, and laying on your back in the grass on a summer night and staring up at the stars? Remember how small you felt as you gazed upward in amazement? As we move into adulthood, we often lose this fascination with the night sky and what lies beyond it. The unfortunate part is, that once we're adults and we're faced with magnified stress everyday, those innocent moments of star gazing become even more necessary. It's not always easy to do in the city due to excessive light pollution, so whenever you get the opportunity, don't hesitate to go out into nature on a clear night and just look up for awhile. It sounds so simple, yet, when you are able to stare into the night sky and see the countless twinkles that stare back at us, you can't help but be reminded of just how small we are.And very often, this also reminds you that most of the issues that are causing your stress are quite small as well.

8. Start Your Own Herb Garden

The benefit to starting your own herb garden is two fold: For one, it helps with remaining more organic based, as we discussed earlier, as you are able to harvest what you grow and use it as needed. But, on top of that, it provides you with a peaceful and enjoyable hobby that gives you great satisfaction from lining the soil, to planting the seeds, to nurturing the growth of the plants and watching them grow until they're ready to be harvested. It's another source connection to the earth. It gives you an opportunity to step outside and put your focus on something other than all the stressful ideas that weigh on your mind far too often. Whether you want to plant herbs, flowers, fruit or vegetables, starting and maintaining a garden is an enjoyable venture that yields beautiful and potentially useful plants. It's also easier than you might think.

There are countless ways to ease the stress that you face during your life, and it's important to find the methods that work best for you ..It's important that we don't get too caught up in the trivial things that tend to overwhelm us when we lose touch with what really matters to each of us individually. Always try and take the time to remind yourself of how amazing it is that we're here at all and always try to keep things in perspective when facing situations that don't have us at our best. What matters most is that we remain aware of what matters most.
